The Hidden Capital - new radio show debuts Saturday, 5/22/10 on WMBR

"Boston... the hidden rock and roll capital of the world..." - Peter Zaremba of NYC garage stalwarts The Fleshtones

This Saturday marks the debut of my new radio program on WMBR FM, The Hidden Capital. The show will be driven by new music from the greater Boston area but will also explore the wealth of Boston rock history in WMBR's extensive archives. While there will undoubtedly be plenty of classic Boston rock bands turning up in each week's playlist, my goal is not to make this a mere exercise in nostalgia; I am interested in fitting Boston's current vital crop amidst the great local bands (most now defunct, but a few still kicking) that preceded them.

I also plan to go beyond things that have seen the light of vinyl; in the past year or so, WMBR has taken up the exhaustive task of digitizing a couple of decades worth of rare tape recordings and demos. This project is ongoing, but it has already returned a huge amount of lost material to our fingertips. New local demos will also be welcome.

The Hidden Capital will broadcast every Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. EST on 88.1 FM on the terrestrial dial in the greater Boston area, with live streams and streaming archives available at wmbr.org.

For requests during the show, call (617) 253-8810.
